March 2006 | Avril, Rush, Nickelback
Participate In Photo Auction For
Third World Relief |
Avril
Lavigne, Celine Dion, Alanis
Morissette, Sum 41 and Bryan Adams
are among Canadian musicians lending
their star power to a charity
auction.
The event, which begins Tuesday, is
part of the Art Gives Hope: A Decade
of Music Portraits exhibit at the
city's Monte Clark Gallery.
The more than 60 photos, including
shots of Rush, Nickelback and the
Barenaked Ladies, were taken by
Andrew MacNaughtan, a Toronto music
photographer and art director who
has created album art photography
for more than 100 projects. He had
the celebrities autograph portraits
he's taken over the past decade.
Money raised will go to families
living with HIV/ AIDS in Africa via
World Vision Canada.
MacNaughtan says he was inspired by
last year's Live 8 concert. He hopes
fans of the artists will be inspired
to become activists for social
change in Third World nations.
"Art certainly functions on a
personal and visceral level yet it's
also beneficial as a
consciousness-raising tool," said
MacNaughtan.
The auction closes on March 17.
MacNaughtan hopes his prints will
raise at least $100,000.

March 2006 | Avril Lavigne Puts Her
Toronto Home For Sale |
Avril
Lavigne fans can sleep in her
bedroom, eat in her kitchen and kick
up their feet in her Jacuzzi tub –
for a price.
The Canadian singer, 21, has put her
Toronto townhouse up for sale at the
bargain price of $599,000, although
it will likely sell for a lot more.
The three-storey open concept home
on Broadcast Lane in the city’s
quiet Cabbagetown neighbourhood is
located just northeast of the
downtown core.
It has a fireplace to curl up in
front of on cold winter nights and
central air conditioning for those
hot and humid urban summers.
The 2,400-square-foot home boasts
two bedrooms, three bathrooms and
hardwood floors throughout.
A 5.4 by 4.6-metre family room sits
on the main level and just up the
stairs is a 4.6 by 4.7-metre living
room and 5.4 by 4.7-metre dining
room. The kitchen, equipped with gas
stove, fridge and dishwasher (all
included), features granite
counter-tops and maple cabinets.
Lavigne’s personal touch? Shelves
made from skateboards.
The third level consists of the two
bedrooms, including a 5.5 by
3.7-metre master bedroom with an
ensuite washroom equipped with
Jacuzzi tub and stand-alone shower.
If you demand the same kind of
privacy and security as the previous
owner, take comfort in knowing that
the house comes with a sophisticated
alarm system, sprinkler system and
direct access from the garage.
The house was purchased for Lavigne
in 2003 for $489,000 by a numbered
company registered to lawyer Leonard
Glickman.
Fans hoping to pocket a trinket from
Lavigne’s house during a showing
should know that it’s been cleared
out. The rocker, who hails from
Napanee, Ontario, now lives in Bel
Air, California with fiancé Deryck
Whibley of Sum 41 – but when the two
are in Toronto they can still crash
at his downtown condo.
